Teaching Experience
Observation and Practicum, Sinagua Middle School
Flagstaff, Arizona
7th and 8th grade
February - March 2012
Observed both an AP World History class and a normal level World History class that opened my eyes to new interactive technology that I can use in my future classroom. Learned about managing classrooms with extremely diverse students.
Observation and Practicum, Flagstaff High School
Flagstaff, Arizona
11th and 12th grade
March - April 2012
Observed a Senior Economics/Government class as well as an AP U.S. History class. In both cases I was able to see young teachers who were very enthusiastic and involved with their students, and was able to look at teaching through the lens of a student teacher.
November 2012
Observed a Senior Psychology class as well as a Freshman World History class. The first was a more traditional case of teaching, whereas the second was a follow-up on the student teacher who is now a full-time teacher at Flagstaff High School. Observing multiple types of teaching methods allowed me to make a mental list of things that I do and don't want to implement in my own classroom.
Observation and Practicum, Flagstaff Junior Academy
Flagstaff, Arizona
5th and 6th grade
September - October 2012
Observed a 5th/6th grade combined classroom, where the teacher taught Language Arts with a History focus. In this case I was able to observe a very nontraditional classroom that I ended up loving by the end. Throughout the month and a half that I spent at FJA, I worked with more than 50 kids and taught a lesson on Chinese inventions that went over really well with all of the students. By far the best practicum experience I have had since beginning my undergraduate degree.
Teaching Assistant, Northern Arizona University
Flagstaff, Arizona
EDF 200 - Introduction to Education
January - May 2012
In a class of over 200 students, I was in charge of a group of six students and helped them navigate the course by discussing current educational issues, instructing them in creating lesson plans, observing and grading their projects, and talking to them about why they have decided to pursue a career in teaching.
